Ingo Maurer was a renowned German industrial designer specializing in the development of lamps and sophisticated lighting systems.

He was born in a fisherman's family on the island of Reichenau, Lake of Constance, Germany.

After working briefly as an apprentice typesetter, Maurer pursued studies in graphic design in Munich.

In 1960, Maurer left Germany and moved to the United States, where he worked in design in both New York and San Francisco.

However, in 1963, he returned to his homeland and soon after founded the company 'Design M' which produced and developed unique lamps. One of his early designs, the 'Bulb' lamp in 1966, even earned a place in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

Later, Maurer renamed his enterprise 'Ingo Maurer GmbH'.
