Sappho (; Greek: ΣαπφώSapphṓ[sap.pʰɔ̌ː]; Aeolic GreekΨάπφωPsápphō; c.– c.BC) was an Archaic Greek poet from Eresos or Mytilene on the island of Lesbos.[a] Sappho is known for her lyric poetry, written to be sung while accompanied by music.
